River
Down by the river, under the trees, love waits for me
to walk from the journeying years of my time and arrive.
I part the leaves and they toss me a blessing of rain.
The river stirs and turns, consoling and fondling itself
with watery hands, its clear limbs parting and closing.
Grey as a secret, the heron bows its head on the bank.
I drop my past on the grass and open my arms, which ache
as though they held up this heavy sky, or had pressed
against window glass all night as my eyes sieved the stars;
open my mouth, wordless at last meeting love at last, dry
from traveling so long, shy of a prayer. You step from the shade,
and I feel love come to my arms and cover my mouth, feel
my soul swoop and ease itself into my skin, like a bird
threading a river. Then I can look love full in the face, see
who you are I have come this far to find, the love of my life.
---Carol Ann Duffy, Rapture
Dearest Friend---
For all that you have given me...for all the joy that you have brought into my life...for the miracle that God has wrought in bringing us together...I give thanks.

Hmmm - so beautiful. Love and prayers to you and Dear Friend.
It is me, I am here in my work identity!
What a beautiful way to start the day!
:)
How lovely!
Is it your anniversary already?
8thday--if you are a poetry fan, I really recommend Duffy's work. I "collect" poetry, and love to put others on to things I've found.
Susan--of sorts. Our wedding anniversary was last month. But today marks the anniversary of the beginning of it all. Our wedding date was sort of determined by when the bishop could perform the ceremony--this one is all ours. :-)
Yeah, but to think a little over a year ago, you were Facebooking on your honeymoon, and we were giving you all sorts of crap over it! I still tell that story!
pant. slobber. that there is some kind of bodacious writing and i am going to try not to dwell overly because it flat wears me out. wrist to forehead. y'all try to behave up theah. and 'love you to pieces. man alive. what a ride.
Kirk--I felt "married" the first time he kissed me. The "honeymoon" was a loooong time after that! ;-)
Duck--it is, indeed, a wonderful ride. I am grateful for every single second of it.
Doxy, you have made these past few years the best of my life. I can't thank you enough and I can't tell you enough how much I love you! I thank God every day for our love, our companionship, our spirituality and the fun we have together. I'll love you forever!
I just feel good all over reading this and broke into a broad smile of pure delight. Every joy to you two over and over again.
And to think I was there to witness the beautiful event. It surely does not seem that a year has passed.
I send you both much love, and I pray for many more blessed and happy years together - even though I'm late to this virtual party.
Mimi--this party never ends, so you can never be late. :-)
Aaaawwwww! I love you two! Many blessings. Your joy give me joy. It gives many of us joy!
I, too, have been blessed. I recognize and lift it up for both of us.
Blessings be.
Congratulations to you both. It's always hopeful to see people find love.
lovely poem.
blessings to you.
I collect poetry too. haven't shared any for a long time....
